A critique of Ontological Pluralism. The case of Quantum Mechanics
Última modificación: 12-08-2014
Resumen
The main target of this intervention is to provide an argument against a widespread tendency in contemporary philosophical approaches to Quantum Mechanics usually referred to as Ontological Pluralism. I will first argue that most pluralist approaches share two common assumptions which I will call the “Comprehension Thesis” (CT) and the “Principle of Referential Persistence” (PRP). I will then try to show that the pluralist applies CT in a restricted manner, and that this restriction is unwarranted. Since both the abandonment of CT and its full application would demand a rejection of pluralism altogether, I will propose the abandonment of PRP.
